Course Summary

SITXFSA001 Use hygienic practices for food safety and SITXFSA002 Participate in safe food handling practices , from the Tourism, Travel and Hospitality Training Package SIT16 describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to handle food safely during the storage, preparation, display, service and disposal of food. It requires the ability to follow predetermined procedures as outlined in a food safety program. This NSW FSS training course is recognised under the VET Quality Framework, ASQA & the NSW Food Authority.

After Your Course

Upon the successful completion of this NSW FSS Recertification, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment from ATS. Students will also receive the NSW Food Safety Supervisor certificate issued by the NSW Food Authority to comply with new regulations. This certificate must be registered by the individual with the NSW Food Authority and local council when issued.

The NSW Food Safety Supervisor (FSS) RECERTIFICATION or REFRESHER is for participants who hold a current NSW Food Authority certificate. These certificates expire after 5 years. If your certificate has expired you must complete the full course again. When you enrol in the Online REFRESHER you will be required to work through updated information & course work relating to Safe Egg Handling, Allergen Management & Cleaning and Sanitising as well as completing a workplace assessment & Portfolio of Evidence to support your RPL application for the 2 units SITXFSA001 Use hygienic practices for food safety and SITXFSA002 Participate in safe food handling practices. Recertification applies to supervisors and managers of food businesses in NSW who wish to renew their certificate prior to the statutory 5 year expiration of their previously issued certificate. The Food Act 2003 (NSW) requires certain food businesses in the NSW hospitality and retail food service sector to have at least one trained Food Safety Supervisor (FSS). The NSW Food Authority introduced this course to help reduce food borne illness. To be eligible for the NSW FSS Online Refresher, you must be working in the industry and have access to a commercial kitchen. There are workplace assessment tasks which must be completed in a commercial kitchen. If you do not meet these requirements, you will need to complete the full NSW FSS Course. How is the Course Assessed?

Online exam consisting of short answer, multiple choice and one workplace assessment as well as a portfolio of evidence you must complete for RPL submission. You must complete the workplace assessment in commercial kitchen. Students must achieve a mark of 95% or higher.
