The NSW Food Safety Supervisor (FSS) RECERTIFICATION or REFRESHER is for participants who hold a current NSW Food Authority certificate. These certificates expire after 5 years. If your certificate has expired you must complete the full course again. When you enrol in the Online REFRESHER you will be required to work through updated information & course work relating to Safe Egg Handling, Allergen Management & Cleaning and Sanitising as well as completing a workplace assessment & Portfolio of Evidence to support your RPL application for the 2 units SITXFSA001 Use hygienic practices for food safety and SITXFSA002 Participate in safe food handling practices. Recertification applies to supervisors and managers of food businesses in NSW who wish to renew their certificate prior to the statutory 5 year expiration of their previously issued certificate. The Food Act 2003 (NSW) requires certain food businesses in the NSW hospitality and retail food service sector to have at least one trained Food Safety Supervisor (FSS). The NSW Food Authority introduced this course to help reduce food borne illness. To be eligible for the NSW FSS Online Refresher, you must be working in the industry and have access to a commercial kitchen. There are workplace assessment tasks which must be completed in a commercial kitchen. If you do not meet these requirements, you will need to complete the full NSW FSS Course. This 'Food Hygiene' Online course is also commonly known as 'Food Handling', 'Safe Food Handling' and 'Follow Workplace Hygiene Procedures' (previous unit name). This is not the NSW Food Safety Supervisor course. The NSW Food Safety Supervisor course is made up of two units: Use hygiene practices for food safety AND Participate in safe food handling practices. This 'Food Hygiene' Online course covers the first unit only and is designed for individuals working within the hospitality and food services industry as a food & beverage assistant, waiter/waitress, kitchen hand etc. Online courses are non-refundable so please take care to read all information relating to the this course prior to booking. You have 4 weeks to complete the course from sign-up or purchase.

This course is designed for supervisors and managers of food businesses in NSW. The Food Act 2003 (NSW) requires certain food businesses in the NSW hospitality and retail food service sector to have at least one trained Food Safety Supervisor (FSS). The NSW Food Authority introduced this course to help reduce food borne illness in the hospitality and retail food service sectors in NSW and to improve food handler skills and knowledge. The NSW FSS Online course involves working through the course material online, in preparation for the assessment tasks. To be eligible for the NSW FSS Online course, you must be working in the industry and have access to a commercial kitchen. There are workplace assessment tasks which must be completed in a commercial kitchen. If you do not meet these requirements, you will need to complete a NSW FSS classroom course. The NSW RCG course is mandatory for all secretaries of registered clubs with gaming machines, all hoteliers with gaming machines, and employees of registered clubs and hotels. If you are looking for work in hospitality, such as a bar, hotel, pub, club or restaurant, where the venue provides gambling services (pokies, TAB, KENO) you will need to complete this NSW RCG course.   • Reading skills: Read & interpret at times complex information relating to industry regulatory codes & signage relating to responsible gambling
  • Oral communication skills: Respond to indicators of problem gambling to deal courteously & discreetly with customers. Ability to identify problem customers, to request self-exclusion using non-confrontational language.
  • Problem-solving skills: Identify potential problem gamblers & apply appropriate solutions within scope of responsibility or seek assistance from appropriate colleagues.
  • Technology skills: Use a computer & appropriate software to record gambling-related incidents & staff actions
