Food hygiene has never been so important for food businesses in New South Wales, than it is now!
The NSW Food Authority’s Name and Shame Register has now been viewed over 7 million times by the public. The register lists the food businesses who have failed to meet the food safety standards in areas of cleaning & sanitation, temperature control, pest control, hand washing and protection from contamination. Currently, there are 1656 penalty notices for food businesses listed on the register, including 168 listed in the last 30 days.
With the huge volume of views from the public, the Name and Shame Register is serving a much bigger purpose than anticipated. It’s not just simply listing the food businesses who have performed inadequately, it’s guiding the public where NOT to eat – extremely damaging for the reputations of the food businesses listed.
This all comes with a clear message: HYGIENE FOR FOOD BUSINESSES IS IMPORTANT AND SHOULD NOT BE TREATED AS SECOND PRIORITY! Food businesses must ensure they are adhering to all food safety standards, maintaining the condition of the premise(s) and ensuring all staff are trained appropriately. This includes having at least one main staff member complete the NSW Food Safety Supervisor course. Australian Training Solutions have courses available on a regular basis in Sydney CBD, Miranda, Campbelltown and ONLINE.
